about SmartyPants

Like most things, SmartyPants came out of a need to address a frustrating fashion issue. While expecting her son, SmartyPants creator Cathy Delaney-Shaub, lived in backless heels (hard to believe, but true). During this time, the annoying problem of her pants getting caught under her heel when she wore backless shoes was more than she, and her hormones, could take. As a new mother she had her hands full, but she couldn't stop thinking about the problem, and more importantly the solution.

It wasn't until a weekend away with friends that things started to take to shape. The girls started talking about what they would invent if they had the chance, so for the first time she talked about her idea. She felt encouraged by their reaction that this was a problem they all had. Something changed during that trip because when she returned home, she could think of nothing else. Then, motivated by watching The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, she started thinking "why not me," and took a leap of faith and met with a patent attorney. She was encouraged by his feedback and officially kicked off the process by filing a patent application.

SmartyPants launched at the Atlanta Apparel Mart in June 2008!

The interest in SmartyPants has been phenomenal and the product can now be found in boutiques around the country.

Delivering a style-savvy, innovative and easy-to-use solution that helps women look and feel their best is at the core of the SmartyPants mission.
